Why Choose a Stone Town Holiday Package?

Stone Town is unlike anywhere else in East Africa. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its labyrinthine alleyways, ornate carved doors and coral-stone buildings tell a story spanning more than a millennium of Swahili, Arab, Persian, Indian and colonial influence. Booking a curated holiday package means every key experience — from the Arab Fort to Forodhani Night Market — is seamlessly arranged, leaving you free to absorb the atmosphere.

Our Stone Town packages start from just $299 per person and include handpicked accommodation in authentic riads and heritage guesthouses. Whether you want a weekend cultural break or a longer combination with Zanzibar’s beaches, we have the right itinerary. All packages include airport transfers, expert local guides and 24/7 support throughout your stay.

What’s Included in Stone Town Packages?

Every Stone Town package includes return airport transfers, accommodation in carefully vetted heritage hotels or riads, and a guided walking tour of the old town. Most packages also include a half-day spice farm tour — one of Zanzibar’s most iconic experiences — and an evening at Forodhani Night Market, where you can sample freshly grilled seafood and Zanzibar’s famous Urojo soup.

Our combination packages add beach time in Nungwi or Kendwa, giving you the perfect mix of culture and relaxation. Sunset dhow cruises, cooking classes, and visits to Prison Island are optional add-ons available to every guest. All tours are led by ZATI-registered local guides with deep knowledge of Stone Town’s history and community.

Best Time to Visit Stone Town

Stone Town can be visited year-round thanks to its year-round warmth, but the best months are June through October (the dry season) and December through February. During these periods you’ll enjoy clear skies, lower humidity, and the best conditions for exploring the old town on foot. The Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) takes place in July and is a superb time to experience the city’s vibrant arts scene.

The shoulder months of March, April and May bring the long rains but also significantly lower prices — sometimes 30–40% cheaper on accommodation. Stone Town’s covered bazaars and indoor attractions mean it remains an excellent destination even during wetter periods. Ramadan brings a unique atmosphere to the markets and mosques, and many travellers find it one of the most culturally enriching times to visit.

Top Experiences Included in Our Packages

The Arab Fort (Ngome Kongwe) is Stone Town’s oldest surviving building and the natural starting point for any visit. Our guides bring the fort’s 17th-century history to life with stories of Omani rulers, Portuguese traders and local resistance. The adjacent House of Wonders — the first building in East Africa to have electricity and an elevator — houses a fascinating museum of Swahili civilisation.

Forodhani Night Market is the social heart of Stone Town after dark. You’ll find dozens of vendors cooking Zanzibar pizza, sugar cane juice, coconut bread and freshly caught octopus over open charcoal fires. Our packages always include an escorted evening at Forodhani so you can sample freely and safely. The spice farm tour, usually a morning excursion, reveals why Zanzibar earned its nickname “The Spice Island” with hands-on encounters with cloves, nutmeg, vanilla and black pepper.
